Apprentice Competition - Local 322 Apprentice Get Chris Hamler Outstanding Apprentice Award
Published on Thursday, May 18, 2023

Local 322's apprenticeship program contestants did a fabulous job at the NJ State Apprentice Competition. Rich Derr (plumber), had an amazing second place finish.

Rich was also presented an award for the outstanding apprentice.  Local 24’s previous coordinator Chris Hamler, who passed away suddenly in 2021 always looked for the things that set apprentices apart from each other. So, in his honor, the NJ coordinators have decided to present an outstanding apprentice award to one of the contestants for going above and beyond. This year the first annual Chris Hamler Outstanding Apprentice Award went to our own Richard Derr. Rich finished his projects with 20 mins to spare, instead of sitting down and resting he began to help a fellow contestant who was behind and would most likely not complete his project in time. Great job Rich! That’s the 322 way! Rich Derr is perfect example of what a Local 322 apprentice should be.
